NEHA shortlisted for four awards at the 2026 All‑Ireland Housing Awards
North and East Housing Association has been shortlisted in four categories at the 2026 All‑Ireland Housing Awards – from the Chartered Institute of Housing. The awards recognise creativity, innovation and community impact across housing in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Each of the shortlisted NEHA projects and nominees reflects a strong partnership approach and a commitment to delivering homes and communities that support wellbeing, inclusion and long‑term sustainability.
Best Housing Development
Bayview Gardens, Drogheda: From Dereliction to Renewal
Bayview Gardens has transformed a long‑vacant brownfield site into 58 high quality homes opposite Drogheda Railway Station. The development blends heritage restoration, modern design and strong environmental performance, with accessible layouts, communal landscaping and carefully restored historic structures including Bayview House and the Coach House. Residents describe Bayview Gardens as safe, welcoming and life changing.
Excellence in Housing Innovation
County Cavan Combined Regeneration: Converting Existing Buildings into Modern Homes – Arva and Cootehill
The Cootehill and Arva regeneration programme shows how vacant or underused buildings in rural towns can be renewed to modern standards. In Cootehill, NEHA has created nine homes within two refurbished main‑street buildings. In Arva, the former Bank of Ireland building has been conserved and converted into four modern apartments with enhanced insulation, restored heritage features and improved access. Together, these projects demonstrate a practical, replicable model for rural housing innovation.
Housing Hero Award
Irena Gustiene and Michael Loughman, Cavan
Irena and Michael, tenants in Loreto Woods since 2022, have taken a self‑directed and compassionate approach to improving their estate. They have supported vulnerable neighbours, enhanced shared spaces, strengthened inclusion and helped create a more cohesive mixed‑tenure community. Their contribution reflects empathy, community leadership and a commitment to ensuring no neighbour is left behind.
Community Champions
Court View Residents Association, Laois: “The Shedium”
The Court View Residents Association, an inclusive tenant‑led group established in 2023, has created a strong culture of participation and shared responsibility. Their major achievement is “The Shedium”, a communal shed planned, procured and delivered entirely by tenants. The project has strengthened community bonds, supported estate improvements, encouraged shared skills and created a space for ongoing collaboration. Tenants continue to identify new ways to enhance their environment and support one another.
NEHA acknowledges the commitment of tenants, residents’ groups, local authorities, design teams and partners who make these achievements possible. We wish all shortlisted nominees from across the sector every success. The awards take place on 20th of March 2026.
