Bayview Gardens shortlisted for Best Social Housing Development
North and East Housing Association are delighted that Bayview Gardens in Drogheda has been shortlisted for Best Social Housing Development at the Sunday Business Post Property Awards 2026. The recognition highlights a major regeneration project that transforms a long‑neglected brownfield site into 58 sustainable homes that blend heritage, restoration and contemporary living.
Once associated with dereliction and anti‑social behaviour, the site has been renewed through the restoration of Bayview House, a protected structure dating back to 1853, and the Coach House, along with the creation of modern BER A rated homes across a new four and part five storey building. The project also safeguards mature trees protected under a Tree Preservation Order, incorporates landscaped gardens and delivers generous communal and public open spaces.
Delivered by North and East Housing Association in partnership with Louth County Council and Urban Life, Bayview Gardens reflects a shared commitment to sensitive conservation, sustainability and inclusive community building. Homes were designed to exceed national standards and offer strong energy performance supported by solar PV, MVHR and efficient heating systems. The development reconnects the area with the town through reinstated pedestrian access, improved active travel routes and enhanced biodiversity.
Bayview Gardens reached full occupancy within six weeks of completion, with residents describing the homes as warm, bright, safe and well located. The project stands as a model for how thoughtful regeneration can bring heritage buildings back into active use while delivering high quality social housing in the heart of a growing town.
